E-mail based record testers

We provide an e-mail based record tester. Send an e-mail to [email protected]. Your message will be rejected (this is by design) and you will get the SPF result either in your MTA mail logs or via however your MTA reports errors to message senders (e.g. a bounce message). This is done to avoid the risk of backscatter from the tester. This test tests both MAIL FROM and HELO and provides results for both.It uses the Python SPF (pySPF) library (http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/pyspf), which is fully compliant with the SPF specification (http://www.openspf.org/Specifications). MTA services for this test are provided by Controlled Mail (http://www.controlledmail.com/). This is an Open Patent (http://www.openpatents.org/)service.An example result is: <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: SPF Tests: Mail-From Result="pass": Mail
From="[email protected]" HELO name="mail.example.net" HELO Result="pass" Remote IP="10.210.38.56">

Port25.com provides another tool to test whether your SPF record is working. Send an e-mail to [email protected] and you will receive a reply containing the results of the SPF check.

The retired SPF record wizard
For a long time we had a wizard utility (at http://old.openspf.org/wizard.html) to assist domain owners with creating SPF records for their domains. Unfortunately the wizard was not very sophisticated and often ended up generating overly complex or even incorrect records because of the difficulty of correctly explaining the concepts underlying SPF to an audience who simply wanted to create an SPF record quickly and did not care about the finer points.For this reason the wizard has been taken down. Please consult our page on the SPF record syntax (http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax) instead or ask for help in the forums (http://www.openspf.org/Forums).
