Format and Word Count:
The student’s work should be presented in an ESSAY of around 1200 words.
Referencing:
The essay should include a list of references (print and electronic) at the end in addition to in-text referencing as per the requirements of the Harvard Referencing System. Proper referencing is a serious academic requirement and skill and will be rewarded accordingly.
Writing and Discussion Topic:
Cultural encounters can prove to be very enriching to all those involved, yet could prove very confusing and disrupting. In most cases these encounters lead to a conflict of values, both at the individual and societal levels. Explore how cultural encounters are manifested in literary works, specifically short stories from An Anthology of Short Stories from Five Continents, with particular reference to The Distant Past by William Trevor and In Cuba I was a German Shepherd by Ana Menendez. Both these stories talk of “refugees”, physically and/or emotionally, Cuban “exiles” in the US and Anglicans who once “belonged” in Ireland.
In the process of answering the TMA, you should make sure to include the below five sub questions:
1) How is the concept of cultural encounter treated similarly in the two short stories: The Distant Past and In Cuba I was a German Shepherd?
2) Are the authors, William Trevor and Ana Menendez, aware of the cultural encounter theme? How do they manifest that awareness?
3) Are the main characters in both short stories aware of the cultural encounter theme? What clues do they provide of such awareness? How similar are their expressions of this awareness?

The student’s work should be presented in an ESSAY of around 1200 words.
The construction of any reputation is a complex process. The factors involved in shaping reputations remain varied, and the interplay of these factors adds to the complexity of the process. History tells us of leaders who have myths built around them and who have had up to this very day their reputations contested. Sometimes, and by some, these leaders are called nation builders, mass murderers, usurpers etc. Their memory lives on and so does the controversy surrounding them. The course book, Reputations deals with Cleopatra and Stalin as examples. Choose one such iconic “leader” (do NOT choose Cleopatra or Stalin) and discuss the issues involved in process of his/her reputation formation. Pay attention to the factors that could have contributed to his/her contested reputation and the role historical sources are made to operate. First, you should read to build your understanding of the complex theme of reputation before focusing your attention on material that would help you address the subthemes numbered 1-5 below, as they apply to the leader of your choice:
1) Identify the issues involved in setting the “leader” in his/her historical context.

2) Discuss the role played by historical interpretation in shaping the “leader’s” reputation.

3) Discuss how myths are constructed around this “leader”.

4) Investigate the interplay of myth and history in constructing the “leader’s” reputation.

5) Reflect on how different times and cultures make use of the past and its sources when constructing seemingly “irreconcilable” reputations of the same “leader”.

Read through the attached Case study “Toshiba’s Accounting Scandal”. As you read through the article create one spray diagram to summarize the case content respecting the conventions, and techniques. It is advised that students submit hand drawn diagrams as opposed to computer generated ones. Photocopies of diagrams should not be accepted. Reflect on your diagram in no more than 200 words. (15% marks).
(b) Based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section II “Control”, and based on the content of the article, and taking “Fixing corporate culture” as your goal draw one closed loop control model diagram to show the various inputs, and the transformation process, that can lead to reaching this goal. You need to show all the components of the control model diagram, the inputs’, processes, control (actuator, comparator, sensor), that can lead to goal achievement . Reflect on your diagram (15% marks)

(c) Using an essay format of no more than 2500 words, and based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section I “Organizations are They Rational”, readings 01 and 07, section III “Structure”, section IV development, section V culture and climate, and section VI “Decision Making” and based on the ideas put forth in the attached case study:

1- Discuss the concept of organizational goals and the three categories of goals, and assess the existence of goal displacement and pluralism at Toshiba. (Word Count 500; 15 Marks)
2- Discuss the management approach at Toshiba, and the extent of employees’ empowerment and teamwork. (Word Count 250, 05 Marks)
3- Discuss the concepts of organizational culture and climate and assess Toyota’s culture and climate. (Word count 400; 10 Marks)
4- Assess the extent to which Toyotas culture and climate and the unwritten rule of behaviors lead to the accounting scandal, (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
5- Discuss the different perspectives on decision making and assess how the decision-making process at Toshiba has affected the managers ability to resist pressures to inflate profits from top management (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
6- The investigation report mentioned that the interference of old generation of managers and their refusal to fully retire affected organizational culture and performance. Discuss the concept of organizational learning, and assess how the older managers’ attitude and power, can affect Toshibas ability to be a learning organization; justify your answers with evidence from the case (300 words; 10 Marks).

I. TMA Topic overview: Business Plan


One vehicle for acquiring an understanding of the entrepreneurial process is through the preparation of a start-up business plan. The focus of this TMA is to select a business idea and create a complete and persuasive mini- business plan. Writing a business plan requires you to ask tough questions about the nature of the business.
• What are the benefits of your product or service?
• What is the target market and how will you penetrate it?
• How will you develop and produce the product or service?
• What is required from the management team?
• What are the risks of the venture and what can you do to reduce them?
• What are the financial implications of the plan?
• What resources, including funding, are required to successfully create the business plan?

II. TMA components (for essay paper and PowerPoint presentation)

A. The Written Plan: The body of the written business plan should be no more than 10 pages including the executive summary and all financial statements. Plans must include an explanation of the offering to investors that indicate the investment required, expected ROI, marketing plan, operations plan, and management team description.

B. Business Plan Presentation: Strong written and oral skills greatly facilitate success in the business world. Those individuals that can effectively communicate their ideas will have an advantage over those that cannot. Your team will present your business plan to the class and, if applicable, participate in a business plan competition.



III. TMA Requirements


This TMA consists of 15% of your total course grade. It is a team project. Each team will consist of 4-5 students. The project is divided into two parts:
1. TMA essay paper (50 marks out of 100)
2. PowerPoint presentation (50 marks out of 100)

• The initial task of your team is to select and propose a business idea to the instructor for approval.
• Students should arrange with their tutors in order to verify that no other team had selected the same idea for the project.

1. TMA Essay Paper (50 marks out of 100) (maximum 10 pages)

• Each team will work on the TMA paper as they would normally do with other courses, but this time in group. This is a good opportunity for students to learn a set of skills that are very important in the professional business world, such as time management, planning, communicating with others, etc.
• Each team is required to select a team leader. The TMA paper should be uploaded to the LMS by the team leader only. This is a very important requirement in order to avoid Turnitin similarities.
• The names of all the team members should be written on the pt3 form, including the name of the team leader. All team members will receive the same mark on the TMA essay paper. Students are required to use the pt3 form provided on the LMS for this specific TMA.
• Students are expected to make sure the written TMA meets the following criteria:
o Plagiarism: It’s imperative that team members write the TMA using their own words. Plagiarism will be penalized depending on its severity and according to AOU plagiarism policy.
o Format: team members are expected to write their answer in an essay format: introduction, body paragraph(s) and a conclusion. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 2 marks from the total TMA paper mark.
o Word count: TMAs are expected to be within the specified word count. A 10% deviation from word count limit is acceptable. Not adhering to specified word count could result in the deduction of up to 2 marks of the total TMA paper mark.
o Referencing: team members are expected to use the Harvard referencing style for in-text referencing and list of reference at the end. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 2 marks of the total TMA paper mark.
o E-Library: team members are expected to use E-library sources to support their answers. A minimum of 3 sources is required. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 2 marks of the total TMA paper mark.


2. PowerPoint Presentation (50 marks out of 100)

• Each team will prepare a PowerPoint presentation that reflects on the most important points discussed in the paper.
• Each team will be allowed a total of 15 minutes. 10 minutes for the presentation plus 5 minutes for Q&A and discussion.
• All team members should contribute equally. Each member should speak for approximately 2 minutes. The last team member to speak should lead a class discussion.
• Team members will be marked based on the “Team presentation evaluation form”. Team members are advised to use this form as a baseline for preparing the presentation.
• Team members will receive the same mark on the PowerPoint presentation, given they have shown up and participated in the presentation. Team members who don’t show up or participate in the presentation will receive a zero on the presentation part.
• Balanced participation in the presentation is one of the requirements mentioned in the presentation marking rubric.

The Dynaco Company stocks a variety of parts and materials it uses in its manufacturing processes. Recently, as demand for its finished goods has increased, management has had difficulty managing parts inventory; they frequently run out of some crucial parts and seem to have an endless supply of others. In an effort to control inventory more effectively, they would like to classify their inventory of parts according to the ABC approach. Following is a list of selected parts and the annual usage and unit value for each:

Required: Classify the inventory items according to the ABC approach using dollar value of annual demand. What recommendations would you give The Dynaco Company? (150 words)
PART B: Supply network (50 marks, 500 words)

Taking a recent purchase as an example, write an essay to discuss the supply network of your product from raw material until it arrives to the consumer. You are required to cover the following points in your essay/presentation:
1. Company overview, product overview, major competitors.
2. Stages of the product supply chain or network design, location of raw material in relation to the manufacturer, distributor, retailer and consumer, etc.
3. The relationship between suppliers and customers (first tier, second tier, etc.., horizontal or vertical integration (if any), levels of inventory and where it’s held.
4. Explanation of any problems and suggestions for further improvements of the supply chain.

General instructions for students:

This TMA should be written by students individually.
TMA weight: 20% of total course grade.
Cut-off date:Check LMS
Plagiarism: It’s imperative that you write your answer using your own words. Plagiarism will be penalized depending on its severity and according to AOU plagiarism policy.
Format: you are expected to write your answer in an essay format: introduction, body paragraph(s) and a conclusion. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 4 marks from your total TMA mark.
Word count:your answer is expected to be within the specified word count range. Not adhering to specified word count could result in the deduction of up to 4 marks of your total TMA mark.
Referencing: You are expected to use the Harvard referencing style for in-text referencing and list of reference at the end. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 4 marks of your total TMA mark.
E-library: You are expected to use E-library sources to support your answers. A minimum of 3 sources is required. Failing to do so could result in the deduction of up to 4 marks of your total TMA mark.

تؤكد البحوث العلمية على أن العقاب قد يترتب عليه نتائج سلبية وخطيرة ولهذا فعلى المعلمين الذين يتعاملون مع الأفراد المعاقين ان يتعرفوا على سلبيات العقاب من خلال ذلك بين بمقالة علمية الآثار السلبية للعقاب المستخدم مع الأفراد ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة على مستوى الفرد المعاق والمجتمع.
مستعيناً في المراجع الحديثة و ذات الصلة بالموضوع كذلك مراكز التربية الخاصة ,والمدارس العادية.

تهتم بتنمية قدرات مواطنيها لتحقيق أفضل فرص للتوافق الاجتماعي.وتختلف نسب الإعاقة العقلية بين الدول.
وتشير الدراسات إلى أن انخفاض مستوى مهارات السلوك التكيفي ( اللغوية والاجتماعية) للأطفال المعوقين عقلياً

أُكتب بحثاً مكوناً من مقدمة ومتن وخاتمة شارحاً وموضحاً فيه مايلي:

تُركز الأدبيات الحديثة على مايُعرف بالمجموعات الداعمة ( (focus groups، والتي تهدف إلى تقديم الدعم والإرشاد والمساعدة العملية لأولياء أمور الأطفال ذوي الإعاقات، والدفاع عن حقوقهم وحقوق أسرهم، بالعودة إلى المراجع والدوريات العلمية المُحكمة اكتب مقالةً علميةً شارحاً وموضحاً فيها طبيعة هذه المجموعات، مشيراً أيضاً الى الاجراءات والتدخلات الإرشادية المستخدمة في هذا المجموعات.

في إطار محاولات علماء النفس للتغلب على مشكلات الذاكرة وتحسينها، اتجه اهتمامهم إلى استخدام ما يعرف بمساعدات التذكر ((Mnemonics والتي تعرف بادوات الذهن التكنولوجية التي يجسد فيها الذهن عملياته، والياته، ومكوناته، لتعمل معا في نظام لخدمته.ولاستحضار المعلومة، في ورقة علمية ناقش أولاً الأهمية التربوية لمساعدات التذكر خاصة للطلبة ذوي صعوبات التعلم، ووضّح ثانياً مجموعة من التدريبات التي تفيد في تنمية الذاكرة لدى الأطفال ذوي صعوبات التعلم من خلال توظيف هذه المساعدات.

1- اعداد ورقة عمل تتضمن الاساليب المستخدمة في تشخيص ذوي صعوبات التعلم من بداية ظهورها وكيفية تطورها، وعرض لاحد المقاييس في المجال بالشرح وتوضيح اهميته وطريقة تطبيقه. ( 10درجات)
2- يقدم الطالب عرض بوربوينت عن التقرير ويشرح لمدة 5 دقائق. ( 5. درجات)
3- اختيار دراسة عربية من قاعدة بيانات المنهل في مجال التربية الخاصة وتلخيصها ( تسلم الاصل مع الملخص). ( 5. درجات )

Taking a recent purchase as an example, write an essay to
discuss the supply network of your product from raw material
until it arrives to the consumer. You are required to cover the
following points in your essay/presentation:
1. Company overview, product overview, major competitors.
2. Stages of the product supply chain or network design,
location of raw material in relation to the manufacturer,
distributor, retailer and consumer, etc.
3. The relationship between suppliers and customers (first tier,

Case Objectives:
Shankaboot is the world’s first Arabic-language web series, created in Lebanon as a social development project carrying forward the following message: “to defy traditions and explore taboos.” The overarching vision is to use media and communication to create a forum for sharing alternative viewpoints, raising awareness and generating constructive discussions about the social issues that are typically experienced by Arabs, particularly youth, but which nobody dares to speak up about. After realizing that the Internet was the only medium available in the Arab world for tackling taboos and creating the interactive platform envisioned without being hindered by censorship, the Shankaboot team launched the Internet-based web series in Lebanon. The project was a resounding success, and won a 2011 International Digital Emmy Award. At the time of the case in July 2012, the producer of this award-winning Lebanese web drama,
Katia Saleh, is approached by potential sponsors who want her to scale up the Shankaboot project to reach the rest of the Arab world. She receives the news with a mix of excitement and anxiety.

Discuss the strategy adopted by Shankaboot to measure its success in Lebanon and factors that account for hankaboot’s success in Lebanon, and critically explain whether it should expand to other Arab countries and how.

I. TMA Topic overview: Business Plan


One vehicle for acquiring an understanding of the entrepreneurial process is through the preparation of a start-up business plan. The focus of this TMA is to select a business idea and create a complete and persuasive mini- business plan. Writing a business plan requires you to ask tough questions about the nature of the business.
• What are the benefits of your product or service?
• What is the target market and how will you penetrate it?
• How will you develop and produce the product or service?
• What is required from the management team?
• What are the risks of the venture and what can you do to reduce them?
• What are the financial implications of the plan?
• What resources, including funding, are required to successfully create the business plan?

II. TMA components (for essay paper and PowerPoint presentation)

A. The Written Plan: The body of the written business plan should be no more than 10 pages including the executive summary and all financial statements. Plans must include an explanation of the offering to investors that indicate the investment required, expected ROI, marketing plan, operations plan, and management team description.

You are asked to discuss with your tutor the topic/situation that you will investigates, once you got the approval from your tutor then you need to submit 3 new pieces of work to your tutor for this assignment. You should produce:

Q1. A Tutor Report of about 2000 words that describes the situation you are addressing in course terms drawing freely on the concepts taught in T306. The discussion and argument should guide your tutor through your chosen method and demonstrate the progression and interconnectedness within your method from one stage’s outcome to the next. Your Tutor Report should include a range of diagrams to help your tutor make sense of the situation and subsequent analysis. It should also include the analysis method diagram and your Ethicality Statement. (60 marks)

Q2. A Client Report of about 500 words. This should be a briefing document aimed at your Client and in plain English that justifies and ‘sells’ the options for change and/or recommendations coming out of your study. (20 marks)


Q3. Project Log. The whole of this document can be seen as ‘the story of your Project’ and is in two sections. The first part – the summaries – can be an extract from your Learning Album if appropriate. These should consist of weekly or period summaries, whichever is appropriate to you and your style of working, detailing your progress through the Project production period. The second part is an overall summary where you are expected to reflect, in course terms, on your experience of putting your project together. This is very much an opportunity to communicate to your tutor how you have reflected on your learning and applied your systems thinking in practice (see Block 5).
This item does not have a word limit specified but as a rough guide to upper limits:

The weekly summaries should be no more than 200 words each.
(b) The overall summary should be no more than 1000 words. (20 marks)

Question 01 (100 % marks)

Read through the attached Case study “Toshiba’s Accounting Scandal”. As you read through the article create one spray diagram to summarize the case content respecting the conventions, and techniques. It is advised that students submit hand drawn diagrams as opposed to computer generated ones. Photocopies of diagrams should not be accepted. Reflect on your diagram in no more than 200 words. (15% marks).
(b) Based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section II “Control”, and based on the content of the article, and taking “Fixing corporate culture” as your goal draw one closed loop control model diagram to show the various inputs, and the transformation process, that can lead to reaching this goal. You need to show all the components of the control model diagram, the inputs’, processes, control (actuator, comparator, sensor), that can lead to goal achievement . Reflect on your diagram (15% marks)

(c) Using an essay format of no more than 2500 words, and based on what you learned in T205B concept file 04 section I “Organizations are They Rational”, readings 01 and 07, section III “Structure”, section IV development, section V culture and climate, and section VI “Decision Making” and based on the ideas put forth in the attached case study:

1- Discuss the concept of organizational goals and the three categories of goals, and assess the existence of goal displacement and pluralism at Toshiba. (Word Count 500; 15 Marks)
2- Discuss the management approach at Toshiba, and the extent of employees’ empowerment and teamwork. (Word Count 250, 05 Marks)
3- Discuss the concepts of organizational culture and climate and assess Toyota’s culture and climate. (Word count 400; 10 Marks)
4- Assess the extent to which Toyotas culture and climate and the unwritten rule of behaviors lead to the accounting scandal, (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
5- Discuss the different perspectives on decision making and assess how the decision-making process at Toshiba has affected the managers ability to resist pressures to inflate profits from top management (Word count 400; 15 Marks).
6- The investigation report mentioned that the interference of old generation of managers and their refusal to fully retire affected organizational culture and performance. Discuss the concept of organizational learning, and assess how the older managers’ attitude and power, can affect Toshibas ability to be a learning organization; justify your answers with evidence from the case (300 words; 10 Marks).

Guidance to Question 01

For this question you need to read the assigned article carefully and to reflect back on concept file 04 for the theoretical assessment.

At this stage of the course you are expected to have developed good understanding of the purpose of drawing spray diagrams as part of applying the SUDA process for solving a messy situation. A spray diagram is the first type of diagrams drawn in the sensing phase of the SUDA process of mess analysis, in order to summarize the main ideas of a case, or the main components/elements of a situation. Please pay attention to the conventions and make sure that the central topic and other subtopics are relevant, and do make sense to the reader. Go back to T552 (Diagramming) the appendix to refresh your memory about the conventions.
(b) This is your first attempt at drawing control model diagram. The task should not be challenging though. Refer to Concept file 04 section II “Control”. You need to draw a control model diagram to show how the selected inputs can reach the stated goal. You also need to illustrate clear, relevant, and non-overlapping inputs, clear and accurate transformation process and an output which is consistent with the goal. You also need to specify which organizational entity is in charge of assuming the role of each of the elements/components of the control model (i.e. actuator, sensor, and comparator). The parties in charge of performing each task within the control mechanism should be clearly identified. It is very important that your diagram is specific rather than generic.

(c) Here you need to practice your analytical skills to assess what is required. Remember to start with a good introduction in which you define the assessed topic before moving on to explaining your plan for working on the TMA. In the body you should move on to assess the causes of the problems faced by Toyota and the impact of the organization’s structure, climate and decision making on its reaction to the problem. You also need to evaluate whether Toyota is a learning organization by relying on both theoretical principles and practical examples, and on the ideas presented in the assigned article.

In 2007, Fujitsu, a world leading IT Services Company, realized that it was spreading its attention too thinly across the U.K. market. It knew that there were existing and potential customers that were worth a more focused selling effort, but it was not sure where to apply the resources to get the most payback (profit).
So, Fujitsu’s marketing leaders set out to segment its private sector customers and prospects (mainly large corporations) within the various industries it serves—what Fujitsu calls sector mapping. AOU would like to develop a Web Based Social Network System between a job seeker and Industry
Recruiter. This system will be expected to provide communication among people , provide the features of
writing and posting a post or any event all at one place, to share the job related details posted by university
career guidance officer via adding a post which can be read by all the students as well as members of
faculty using the website. This web application will be controlled by the AOU IT administrator and can be
used by the career guidance officer and students as well as faculty members.
The following features will be implemented in proposed system:
Students can register and login into the system once their registration is approved by the administrator.
The system verifies the user id and password.
ï‚· Once the student logging into the system, he/she can write and post an article on various topic of
his/her choice. Also he/she can chat with the other students.
ï‚· Students can also upload images with their post.
ï‚· All students can view News Feed posted by individual student.
ï‚· AOU IT Administrator has full authority on system, he/she can add/delete Students and members of Faculty

It is desired to develop a database for the university scenario mentioned in Question-2. The university
would desire to have a system to keep track of its students, news feeds, images, faculty members and
employees.
You are required to answer Questions 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 from the below given scenario.
The university has registered with a registration number, description, address and phone number. The
university is contracted with many employees, the employees can be faculty members, IT administrators
and Career Guidance Officers. There are many students registered in the university. For every employee,
the system will store an employee id, first name, middle name, last name, address, telephone number and
job title. For each student the system keeps a student id, first name, middle name, last name, date of birth, telephone number and address will record as their details.
The website will be created by the university to provide the features of writing and posting a post or any event all at one place, the events are uploaded as news feeds or sometimes images. The students may post one or many events, there are two types of events: news feeds and images. The students are able to read events posted by other students. After every event the system updates the events happened. The employees are able to make the updates whenever necessary. An event will be identified by event Id, description and Type. All the events are updated by the employees with an event ID, Date and Time of the event happened.

In November 2008, Shaw’s supermarkets sold a 10-ounce bag of Green Mountain Fair Trade certified coffee for $8.49. The bag which was adorned with the Fair Trade certified logo, did not explain the meaning of Fair Trade. Consumers were directed to a website or a phone number to get more information. However, the bag did say the following:

A good cup of coffee can change your day. A great cup of coffee can help change the world. By supporting farming communities, promoting sound environmental practices and sourcing only the highest quality beans we work to ensure that everyone who comes in contact with our coffee benefits. So while you appreciate the results in your cup, you can also rest assured that this coffee has had a positive impact on every person it has touched which to us makes these little beans a pretty big deal.

The main premise of Fair Trade was that farmers were given a guaranteed “fair price” for their coffee, a guarantee that became particularly appealing to farmers in the late 1990s and early 2000s when the price of coffee fell below the cost of production. For knowledgeable consumers, this was a positive reinforcement knowing that they were helping a social cause even though it was not clear on any bag of Fair Trade coffee just how much farmers were being paid and how much they were profiting.

The organization responsible for certifying food products (including coffee) as Fair Trade was the Fairtrade Labeling Organization (FLO). Based in Bonn, Germany, FLO was an umbrella organization that united 20 labeling initiatives in 21 countries and producer networks. But with a market share of Less than 3.8% of the coffee market and 6.1% of the specialty coffee market, and a growth rate that had plunged from 97% in 2003 to 2% in 2007, the leadership of FLO found itself at a crossroads. Pressures were mounting inside and outside the organization to grow market share for Fair Trade certified coffee, and stakeholders were divided on how best to do this.

You are required to write no more than 1,500 words, but you will also need to present some of your findings in graphical or tabular form. Please indicate at the end of your essay the number of words you have used.
Before you start this assignment, refer to the general guidance on completing and submitting your assignments on page 41 in the course guides booklet that you have received with the package.
• Task 1 (selection of texts)
Choose two texts by native speakers/writers of English from two different registers: one text should be spoken (a natural conversation/dialogue between two or more speakers) about any subject taken from TV, radio, magazine, newspaper or any other source) and the other text should be written (academic prose) text in English taken from any academic source. The written text can be about any specialized subject (e.g. medicine, law, education, arts, politics etc.). Each text should be about 200-250 words in length. The texts you choose should be RECENT; i.e. published over the last 2- 3 weeks. You can access most daily newspapers, magazines or academic proceedings on the internet.
You should expect to spend a reasonable amount of time selecting your texts, as your choice of text will potentially affect the quality of your answer. Do not be afraid to reject your initial choice if you come across something better, since you will inevitably have gained insights from the process of selection. However, you need to remember to leave yourself enough time to spend on the analysis of your chosen texts.
Important Notes:
1. Your chosen texts MUST be approved by your tutor to make sure they are the proper texts for the TMA, otherwise your TMA will not be accepted.
2. You should write an introduction to the TMA at the very beginning of the page on which you are beginning the TMA. Also, you should write a conclusion to the whole TMA at the end in which you sum up what you have done in the TMA and state your own evaluation and opinion of the TMA.
3. In an appendix attach a photocopy or a printout of the two texts you have used for analysis.
4. Indicate in a very clear manner the source and date of publication of each text.
• Task 2 (analyzing the experiential meanings with special reference to coherence and cohesive devices)
• You should type the two texts (200-250 words) in your TMA.
In this task you should analyze the experiential meanings in the two texts as outlined in Book 3, Unit 13, section 4 using the SFL aspects and analytical methodology. You can also refer to Unit 15 and 16 for more information, illustration and practice that are relevant to this TMA.
You need to clarify how cohesive devices are deployed to build experiential and interpersonal meanings to create a coherent text; how cohesive patterns are interpreted in relation to the contextual variable of mode and in terms of their role in building those experiential and interpersonal meanings and why certain uses of lexical cohesion make a text more or less effective.
• Task 3 (comparison of the 2 texts; 750-1000 word essay)
In this task you should write an essay (750-1000 words) in which you discuss, explain and compare the two media articles depending on the findings provided by the raw text analysis you performed in Task 2. You should suggest reasons for, and communicative effects of, the differences (i.e. differences in views and ideas of the same event/topic). You should illustrate your discussion/comparison with examples taken from the two texts you analyzed in Task 2.
Note: You can use tables, graphs and any other formats to do the tasks properly and make them convenient and easy to follow. You could also use appendices to tabulate the results of the 2 articles.

Facebook and Twitter are two well-known social networks that are currently used by millions of users.
In this TMA, each student is requested to evaluate both Facebook and Twitter platforms. Each student
is expected to perform the following activities and submit the findings as a report in this TMA:
Stage A: System Evaluation
ï‚· Give complete details on the systems’ main functional and non-functional activities.
ï‚· Evaluate the GUI of the two systems (according to the HCI concepts).
ï‚· Identify the weaknesses of each platform.
Stage B: System Development
Upon completing the evaluation stage, the student is expected to have clear view on both systems and
should be able to identify the missing features and suggest some actions for further enhancement. In
this stage, the student is expected to perform the following activities:
ï‚· List the new features which should be included in the enhanced versions of the two platforms
with proper justification.
ï‚· Suggest new GUI which overcomes the issues raised in the previous stage.
ï‚· Discuss (using your own words) the possibility of merging the features of Facebook and
Twitter in one platform.
ï‚· Provide sufficient diagrams which include: use-cases, sequences diagrams.

Practical Problem
This course is designed to mainly develop the programming skills of learners. In addition, the students should critically think to resolve problems. From this concept, this TMA is prepared.
In this TMA, each student is asked to write a java program which can calculate the average grades of the courses that has been completed by each particular student during the last two semesters Spring 16/17 and Fall 17/18. Please go through the following specification in order to complete this TMA successfully:
• The program can be implemented using either JApplet or JFrame classes.
• The courses and grades that was completed on Spring 16/17 should be hard-coded as variables in the code itself (e.g. int M105=80) and the grades should match your marks according to the SIS records.
• The courses and grades that was completed on Fall 17/18, should be read through a GUI interface as follows:
o The user should be asked to enter the number (n) of courses completed on Fall 17/18.
o Based on the entered number and after pressing the button “Click”, the GUI should show n text fields to allow the user enter the course code and the corresponding grade as shown in the Figure below:
• After entering the grades of the courses (according to your transcript from SIS), the student should press the button “Calculate Average” on the GUI.
• This button should calculate the average of all courses studied in the two semesters. The program should calculate the average grade by summing up the total marks of the hard-coded courses in the program + the marks of the courses entered on the GUI interface, then divide it over the total number of courses as per the example below:
Hard-coded courses in Spring 16/17

int m129 = 88
int T175A = 77
GUI courses in Fall 17/18

When pressing “Calculate Average”, the result should be ((70+88+77) + (90+55+65+78))/7 = 74.2%
Important notes:
 Copy & Past is not allowed and subjected to AOU plagiarism policy.
 All the marks used in the code and entered in the GUI should exactly match the student transcript from SIS.
 A copy from your transcript extracted from SIS should be included in the submitted file.
 Students who fail in submitting the copy of his/her transcript or entering incorrect grades will result in awarding the student ZERO.
The code should be copied and pasted on the Word document and NetBeans Project should be submitted as well
 Note that the title of the GUI interface should include students’ID_student’s name.

Despite the continuous reassurance offered by the ultimate Optimist Pangloss that “we live in the best of all possible worlds,” Candide is faced by a long-standing force of evil, pain, and suffering that leads him to expose the flaws of his tutor’s philosophical teachings. After he was banished from the Baron’s castle, Candide embarks on a journey where he encounters incidents and characters that offer one example after another of evil, suffering, pain and misfortune. How is Candide’s philosophical views in Voltaire’s work Candide put to trail? How is evil depicted? Discuss several key incidents and characters Candide encounters throughout his sojourn that shake his belief in Optimism. Does Candide finally realize the flaws in the philosophy of Optimism? Does he oppose Pangloss’ views? In your view, how, if at all, does his perspective change

يتكون الواجب الدراسي من أربعة أجزاء مبينه في الجدول التالي:

ïپ¶ الجزء الأول (إمتحان قصير)
يقوم الطالب بقراءة المقالة المترجمة الأولى المتوافرة على موقع الـlms، ودراستها بشكل عميق. ويقوم الطالب بمشاهدة الفيديو المترجم القصير المتوافر أيضًا على موقة الـlms.

ثم يقوم بتقديم إمتحان قصير في بداية المحاضرة الخامسة حول المقالة الأولى والفيديو. ستكون الأسئلة في هذا الإمتحان (إنشائية و موضوعية) ولكن قصيرة لكي يتمكن الطالب من إنهاء الإمتحان خلال ربع ساعة فقط. ومن المهم أن الطالب يأخذ بعين الاعتبار أن طبيعة الأسئلة ستحتاج منه التحليل والتقويم وليس التذكر فقط، فمثلًا ما هو نقطة الرابط بين المصدرين؟

ïپ¶ الجزء الثاني (نشاط صفي):
يتم تقسيم الشعبة إلى مجموعات ويقومون بتقديم حلول لحالات ستقوم المحاضرة بتوزيعهم لهم. ثم يقوم الطلاب بتقديم الحلول وربطها ودعمها بالمعلومات المقدمة بالمقالة الأولى والفيديو.

ïپ¶ الجزء الثالث (مناظرة):
يقوم الطالب بقراءة المقالة المترجمة الثانية. ويتضمن هذا الجزء إعطاء الطلاب الفرصة للتفكير بالموضوع المطروح في المقالة الثانية بعمق وإستخدام المهارات العقلية العليا، مثل التفكير الناقد وأخذ أرآء الآخرين ودعم وجهة نظرهم بأدلة معتمدة. يقسم المحاضر القاعة إلى مجموعتين متساويتين، مجموعة معارضة والأخرى موئيدة لموضوع المقالة. ويخصص المحاضر نصف ساعة لكي يسمح للطلاب مناقشة المواضيع المطروحة في المقالة.

ïپ¶ الجزء الرابع (إمتحان قصير):
يقوم الطالب بتقديم إمتحان قصير حول المقالة الثانية. ستكون الأسئلة في هذا الإمتحان (إنشائية و موضوعية) ولكن قصيرة لكي يتمكن الطالب من إنهاء الإمتحان خلال ربع ساعة فقط.
