About TMA:
The TMA covers the cost accounting concepts and practices in the businesses. It is marked out of 100 and is worth 20% of the overall assessment component. It is intended to assess students understanding of some of the learning points within chapters 1 to 5. This TMA requires you to apply the course concepts. The TMA is intended to:
Assess students understanding of key learning points within chapters 1 to 5.
Increase the students knowledge about the reality of the cost and management accounting as a profession.
Develop students communication skills, such as essay writing, analysis and presentation of material.
Develop the ability to understand and interact with the nature of the managerial accounting tools in reality.
The TMA:
The TMA requires you to:
1- Review various study chapters of Cost Accounting Book and apply some of the concepts within it.
2- Conduct a simple information search using the internet.
3- Present your findings in not more than 1,200 words (900 words for Part A and 300 words for Part B). The word count excludes headings, references, title page, and diagrams.
4- You should use a Microsoft Office Word and Times New Roman Font of 12 points.
5- You should read and follow the instructions below carefully. Each part of the process will carry marks for the assignment.

The American linguist and critic Mary Louise Pratt has defined the contact zone as social spaces where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other, often in contexts of highly asymmetrical relations of power, such as colonialism, slavery, or their aftermaths as they are lived out in many parts of the world today. In light of the above definition, how does the contact zone unsettle categories of home and abroad in Doyles The Sign of Four and Stevensons The Beach of Falesa?How does it impact the representation of the domestic elementsin the stories? Compare and contrast its representation in both stories and comment on whether the encounter it allows between the different peoples and cultures is portrayed as a positive or problematic one. In what ways does the contact zone influence the lives of the major characters in the works? In your opinion, what might these representations tell us about the realities of imperialism, trade, migration and settlement in colonial England during the 19th century.

Can we say that in Mildred Taylors Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, it is only through education that the child evolves? Discuss.
Student Notes:
The student is expected to focus on the theme of education in Mildred Taylors novel Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry and on its role in developing the childs awareness about the self and the world around him/her. Are there other matters that contribute to the childs development? How is African American history demystified through education? Why is the knowledge of their true history so important for the Logan children? How does education, both formal and informal, develop child agency? What is the role of parents in revealing power structures within their society? Students ought to focus on child education within the premises of their warm home where the Logan children are taught to deal with each other in the first instance. Does dealing with the outside world require another kind of teaching? How does Taylor deconstruct classical didacticism?
These are brainstorming questions that are likely to stimulate your thinking. After reading the novel, you are expected to write an outline first and support your argument with textual citations from the novel and from critics views on the topic. Cicely Cobb, James Anderson, Karen Smith and other critics have written about Black Education. You may want to explore their critical writings and other articlesfrom the AOU e-library. Do consult your librarian about the new databases.
A thesis statement and a proper logical presentation of ideas are essential.
To do this TMA, you will need to follow these steps:
1. Plan your essay ahead of time by writing a plan highlighting the main points you intend to cover.
2. Write a thesis statement stating your argument to be included on the first page of your essay.
3. Select some excerpts that relate to your argument. Summarize what these passages say and add your own comments and interpretation.
4. Ensure your essay refers to some quotations from the novel.
5. Your analytical comments should precede or follow every time you quote from the text under discussion or the critical material you refer to.
6. Reference to critical material related to this topic is necessary. (You should refer to at least 3 critical works).
7. All your references should follow the Harvard citation system
8. You should refer and quote from the courses audiovisual material whenever possible. The audiovisual material should be well integrated in your essay.
9. At this stage, you are expected to know how to paraphrase and synthesize the material you read, using your own words as much as possible. You still have to quote and use quotation marks in the right annotation methods you have learned.
10. If anything is unclear, ask your tutors in class and during their office hours for further clarification.
Using the e-library on campus:
Students are requested to visit the e-library on campus and use it to do their TMAs properly. They are also requested to show their tutor that they used the e-library in doing the TMA by referring to some articles they have read. Students who fail to use and refer to material from the e-library will subsequently lose some marks.
